Competition time!

Hey Guys,

It’s begun! Our fundraising campaign is up and running and we are really enjoying get out and about spreading our sweetness. Since my last update we’ve been busy here at Sherbet Lemon Theatre running our first competition, Guess the number of Sherbet Lemons in the jar! £1 a go, guess how many are in the jar and with the right guess you could win, it’s as simple as that.

We’ve been set up around the university campus, making ourselves recognisable by wearing yellow, after all we are the Sherbet Lemons, and our brand new company t-shirts. So far we have located ourselves in Zing café, The University Library and the Student Union reception promoting our competition and our company in the process. By placing ourselves around the campus we have been able to promote our brand to a wider audience and attract interest in our company and show.

Emma’s Bedtime Rountine

So sleep is something I’ve had a love hate relationship throughout my life. As a child I despised it, I would scream and shout when put to bed and would refuse to go unless someone stayed with me and read to me until I fell asleep. As I’ve grown older, however, probably starting somewhere around my teenage years, my bed has become my favourite place and sleep my best friend. Though I sometimes still struggle to fall asleep I’m a heavy sleeper so once I’m out, I’m out and not much will wake me. In terms of my bedtime routine when I’m at university I don’t really have one. My schedule is varied throughout the week meaning I go to bed at different times every day with varying amounts of time to get ready for sleep. So, I’m going to tell you about my bedtime routine when, on the rare occasion these days, I go home.

My family will typically end the night sat around watching the television, usually whatever programme is on BBC One, and when the ten o’clock news starts we gradually migrate upstairs. I walk into my room, turn on my main light, draw my curtains and turn on my bedside lamp. From here I’ll put my phone next to my bed and change into my pyjamas, putting my dirty clothes in my wash basket and the clean ones on my ‘everything goes here’ chair. I then take off my jewellery, starting with my rings, then watch, necklace and earrings, followed by removing my make-up. Next I venture to my bathroom, picking up my tooth brush on the way as it’s more than likely on charge.  Here I wee, brush my teeth and fill up my water bottle (in that order), after which I go back to bedroom. I turn of the main light, remove all the cushions and blankets from by bed and place my glasses next to my jewellery. I now get into bed and pick up my phone to watch pointless YouTube videos and scroll through social media until my eyes can’t stay open anymore. At this point I’ll put my phone on charge, turn off my lamp and toss and turn until I eventually fall asleep.

Producer

Hello,

My name is Hayley and I am the producer for Sherbet Lemon Theatre. I have never had the pleasure of working as a producer before so this is a very exciting opportunity for me to see theatre from a new perspective. I love working with people to organise new and exciting opportunities, so I hope I will be able to make this happen for Sherbet Lemon Theatre. As well as this I will be keeping a close eye on our budget as nothing happens without money, (I may need to revisit some maths skills for this).

I am overjoyed to be working with the rest of this wonderful ensemble; it is a pleasure to be working with such creative, hard working, talented people! Also, our topic of sleep is one very close to home as I have suffered with night terrors throughout my life, so it is very important to me that we educate people on what they are and how they affect people. I know that our use of verbatim will be very useful for this.

I hope to see you all in May for the show! Cheerio for now.

Stage Manager

Hi,

I am Chloe McKay and I have the absolute pleasure of taking on the role of Stage Manager for Sherbet Lemon Theatre! I have been itching to get back into the role of Stage Manager for a little over a year now and I cannot wait to get my teeth stuck into all things technical. My organisation, team playing and leadership skills will, I hope, enable me to fulfil my role as Stage Manager successfully. Although I may have to brush up on my programming skills, it has been a while!

Discussioning and researching about sleep!
Discussing and researching sleep!

The exploration of sleep and dream theory in meetings and rehearsals thus far leaves me excited for the potential of Sherbet Lemon Theatre’s first show. Although my sleeping pattern tends to be what is considered as normal, listening to other company members’ experience with a variety of abnormal sleeping patterns fascinates me. I cannot wait to delve deeper into the exploration of sleep and why it is so fundamental that we as humans need sleep to function. I hope our audience enjoys exploring along with us in the final product. I have a good feeling about Sherbet Lemon Theatre, and I look forward to keeping you up to date with both the technical and artistic side of creating Sherbet Lemon Theatre’s debut show.
